Injury Update :: Michael Byrne injured testing for 2012 Supercross

Michael Byrne confirmed for everyone via Twitter that he did suffer injuries from a crash he Tweeted about on Christmas Day.

Just to let every1 know, I did get hurt. My hub broke when I was in the whoops on Wed so I had a bad crash and broke my nose and C6. Dec 25

Thanks everybody for all the get well messages it means a lot. And just to clarify the hub on my bike was a stock hub not a talon that broke. Dec 26

C6 (cervical vertebra)

The sixth cervical (neck) vertebra from the top. The next-to-last of the seven cervical vertebrae. An injury to the spinal cord between C6 and C7 vertebrae is called a C6-7 injury. These injuries generally allow wrist control, but no hand function.

C1 vertebral fractures represent 10% of cervical spine injuries and 2% of all spine injuries (Foster). C2 fractures account for 33% of fractures, and C6 or C7 fractures account for 50%; fractures of the odontoid process of C2 represent 15% of all cervical spine injuries (Boyarsky).
